Description:

The Department of Health of Bahia recorded the death of another person caused by meningitis in Porto Seguro. The total number of deaths from the disease in the southern part of the state has reached 5. The [latest] victim is a woman, 26, who died on Sunday night [1 Nov 2009]. The patient had been in hospital since 23 Oct 2009, with fever, vomiting, and pain in the neck and head. In total, 9 cases were reported in the region of Porto Seguro and 4 people remain hospitalized. All patients had been infected at a party in the village of Trancoso, on 18 Oct 2009, according to the Department of Health.
